------Again such a nasty disease, this Betty Boop disease or whatsoever ? Yes, when you don't inform yourself, it is!

Sarcoidosis is a chronic disease with no know origin and with more information the greater your awareness, of the sometimes big problems with this disease, can become.

See for the different names for Sarcoidosis, the official Latin name, this link Who named it? from our link page "fellow" sites.

Sarcoidosis might be an systemic disorder, or ......., nowbody knows for sure.
The symptoms of the disease can attack any organ of the body in any location with so called granulomas. These symptoms are the ones doctors sometimes will try to overcome when they trouble you. The disease itself (how and why the granulomas are formed) can't be cured yet. The cause is unknown. For some reason the body's immune system acts as if it needs to fight an invader, for longer periods.
You can't get it from or give it to others.
Anyone can have the disease, sometimes unknowingly, even without doctors finding proof for the existence of the disease, in your body and/or in many forms.
Fatique, in sometimes extreem porprotions, is a common symptom to all patients.

Through the media we know that some prominent people have/had Sarcoidosis, like our Dutch crownprince Willem-Alexander, and on 12-08-2008 Bernie Mac an American actor/comedian (Ocean's Eleven) died with this disease. Also the famous English writer Shakespeare is known to have sufferd from Sarco.

In some cases the disease can be fatal (a minor percentage of the cases).
Nobody will be fully cured from this disease, sometimes nature itself takes care of a relapse (remission) for some time. In this time you won't experience symptoms and can last a lifetime, when you are lucky enough. Most of the diagnosed people will go into remisson within two years. After this period the disease has a chronic nature.
Sarcoidosis sometimes mimics other diseases and vice versa, so it is hard to trace.
Genetics seem to be playing a role, in some families it can occur more often.
Sarcoïdosis is (still) a medical mystery !

Not much news will be found on this site. Since the discovery of the disease in 1877 since not much has changed in the research for the cause of this disease, unfortunately.
